From the vault :Black Willis Live at Egans

Posted by chinesedentist On April - 26 - 2012

On Friday April 27th Egans will get a visit from Black Willis and The Golden Monica

If there is a band that is synonymous with late smokey whiskey tinged nights it’s the Black Willis band. Adam and Blake Williamson have been providers of soundtrack to dive bars and hell raising since the early 2000′s . The band has gone through several changes over the years and this model is comprised of Adam Williamson (Guitar, vocals), Blake Williamson (Drums), Little Bo Gibson (Guitar) and Justin Colburn (bass). If there is one thing we love about this band ( well besides for their undying love of The Crimson Tide) it’s there love of playing it’s like they do if for them and we get voyeuristicly watch. So if your ever feel like your hell raising is getting a little low, we know a cure and it is the Black Willis band.

The Dexateens last Stand at Egans

Posted by chinesedentist On October - 20 - 2011

One of our favorite bands for years have been the D-teens and for good reason. They bring an amazing amount of energy to their live shows. We were lucky enough to be on hand and get a great amount of video. So enjoy what our own Mikey says is some of the best film he has ever been involved with. Look for a few more nuggets from both The Dexateens and The Alabama Shakes coming soon.

The Alabama Shakes Live at Egans for Bo’s birthday

Posted by chinesedentist On October - 19 - 2011

For those lucky enough to get in on Friday Oct 14th, you got to see a band that will no longer be playing small venues. You might have even got in but could not see the band. It was the fullest Egan’s has ever been. Well, do we have a treat for you. With Mikey on the injured reserve, our own Erin Phillips fought the throbbing masses to record a few songs that are not on their wildly popular EP . The sound is not perfect but it really captures the energy of a packed out live Alabama Shakes show. These guys, much like the Dexateens, make us proud to be from Alabama.

Posted by chinesedentist On August - 18 - 2011

*update after publication of our initial story we got a call from the good people saying that there is a grand prize of an additional set of tickets with a parking pass.

We have been pumped about what has been going on at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. Count us as double pumped about My Morning Jacket, Neko Case and Phosphorescent coming to play a benefit show here in town. You don’t have the money to splurge on tickets right now you say; because lets face it, how could you not get that tattoo of Dark Lord Saban eating an oatmeal cream pie? It’s super roll tide but also ironic enough for the hipsters. Well do we have some good news for you!  Egan’s is giving away a pair of tickets. What do you have to do to get said tickets?  Well, nothing. You just have to show up, sign in and enjoy a beer or two. Here is what Egan’s had to say about the event:

We’ve got two tickets to Friday nights concert at Tuscaloosa Amphitheater and we’re giving them away. Come out to Egan’s Bar Thursday night and sign up for the free drawing. One lucky person will get a pair of tickets shortly after midnight. While you’re there, enjoy $2.50 Tommy Knocker Maple Draft, $3.50 Egan’s High Gravity Drafts, $4 Tallgrass IPA and Buffalo Sweat and $3 Bud Cans. We’ll see you at Egan’s this Thursday and every night.
A chance for free tickets and drinking — Egan’s, you know you had us at drinking.

Beer Party Thursday Afternoon at Egans to Benefit Free The Hops

Posted by chinesedentist On January - 20 - 2011

On Thursday Jan. 20th Egans is playing host to a Great Divide tap take over . The Event will run from 4pm until with proceeds going to Free The Hops and their continued effort  to change the laws and culture of beer in Alabama. All drafts will be $3.50 and feature:

Great Divide Claymore Scotch Ale. Named for a medieval Scottish sword, Claymore Scotch Ale is our tribute to the legendary “Wee Heavy” beers of Scotland. This malty, deep-ruby beauty features lots of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile, and a subtle warming character. Unlike its namesake, this beer only requires one hand, but it’ll still make you feel like nobility.  7.7% ABV. beeradvocate.com rating B+

Great Divide Espresso Oaked Age Yeti is a new addition to the Yeti clan. A generous infusion of espresso adds yet another layer of complexity to this beer, combining with the vanilla oak character, intense roasty maltiness and bold hop profile to create a whole new breed of mythical creature. It’s official: You can now have Yeti with breakfast.  9.5% ABV. beeradvocate.com rating A-

Great Divide Hoss is based on the Marzen lagers of Germany. Rich, layered malt notes, with hints of cherry and dark fruits, dominate, while the unique addition of rye imparts a slightly earthy, spicy character. Hoss finishes crisp and dry, and its brilliant red-orange color is a toast to the sunsets that make the perfect backdrop for this beer. 6.2% ABV. beeradvocate.com rating B+

Great Divide Hades is a Belgian-Style golden ale brewed with a rare Belgian yeast strain that gives a complex spicy flavor and aroma. Noticeable hops and medium malt character make it a very well balanced, crisp ale.  7.8% ABV. beeradvocate.com rating B

Tommy knocker Alabama Hop Strike Black Rye IPA is described as “characterized by an intermingling of spicy citrus hops and chocolate nose,” and comes in at a hefty 7% ABV and 78 IBUs. It uses 4 different varieties of grains as well 5 different types of hops. The beer was brewed from the ground up in honor of Free The Hops.beeradvocate.com rating B+

What’s better then an afternoon spent enjoying great craft beer at a great price, doing it while raising money for a great cause. Hope to see your there I know we’ll be. Cheers!
