Wellthatscool.com Bowling League !!!

Posted by chinesedentist On September - 12 - 2011

That’s right everyone it is time for a new league to start. This will be our…..12 to 15ish league. Its hard to really remember when the sport practically demands that you drink large amounts of beer. The league works like this;

  • You and two friends come out to the AMF bowling ally on Wednesday nights at 8pm
  • If you don’t have two other people to help you form your very on three headed monster pure

    Hip socks encourged!

bowling awesomeness come out anyway there are always a few people looking to join a team.

  • You each bring $12, this covers the cost of the games, shoe rental and league scoring
  • You get assigned a handicap to make it fair when bowling against better bowlers.
  • How does this handicap work? Well I’m glad you asked, It is 100% of 200. I know you thought there would be no math but bear with us, all it means is that if you average 100 pins you’ll get 100 pins added to your score. So lets say you average 120 pins well you get 80 pins, 150 you 50 added and so on. So what ever you average under 200 will be added to your score.
  • At the end of 12 weeks there are cash prizes as well as well as a big pot luck and free bowling. We also have it on good authority that there will be a special prize for each team this league. Hint it rhymes rolling fall.

We like to look at the league as sort of a midweek weekend. Something to help on Monday because shit it’s only two days till bowling and after bowing it’s almost the weekend. It’s also a great way to kick it with your friends and play one of the few sports that encourage drinking. If you have any questions please drop us a line at wellthatscool(at)gmail(dot)com. We hope to see you there.

Well That’s Cool Bowling League

Posted by chinesedentist On May - 16 - 2011

As many of you know there are a few things that we are really into. The first of course is beer, sweet delicious nectar of the gods beer. The second however is sports, we like to think of ourselves as the thinking mans hooligan. So why not do something that brings both of our passions together bowling. The way it works is that you form a three person team, bring $12 a person (and your game face) and get ready for what we call the midweek weekend. The $12 covers shoes three games, score keeping and the cash prizes at the end of the 12 week season. You will receive a handicap based on your average that really makes it fair no matter what your skill level is. What better way to spend a Wednesday evening then by hanging out  a bunch of friendly cool people bowling. If you have any questions feel free to call Bo @ 205-886-8140 or email us at wellthatscool(at)gmail. Hope to see you there!! This Wed. May. 18th is the first night of bowling and registration. Normally the bowling starts at 8pm but this week getting there early around 7:30pm would be good to fill out the forms.

Beer School at Wilhagans

Posted by chinesedentist On January - 24 - 2011

If there is something we here at wellthatscool.com love it’s beer. There is also something else we love and that’s school. If not, why have some many of us been in it for so long? Some would say that my four years at Shelton would be about two too many, but I say they are incorrect. How else is a person supposed to make sure they have soaked up all the information? So with that in mind, we are glad to announce Beer School at Wilhagans. For $30, you can attend six one-hour classes. All of which will be held at Wilhagan’s on Wednesday nights at 6pm. The six-week class is limited to 50 people and sign-ups will be ongoing at Wilhagan’s until the class is full. I know a lot of our readers feel they have done enough field research on this but the world of beer just keeps growing and there is always more to learn. Did we mention there will be free samples of all the beers we talk about? Did we also mention that all proceeds go to freethehops.org? Once you graduate “Magna Cum Lager,” you’ll also get in 30 minutes early and receive 50% off the price of admission to the wellthatscool.com’s 2nd annual “Suds of The South” beer event. Spots are very limited and if you want to go,  please head over to Wilhagans and sign up. Remember the wise words of School House Rocks, “It’s great to learn ’cause knowledge is power!” Hope to see you there!

Beer Party Thursday Afternoon at Egans to Benefit Free The Hops

Posted by chinesedentist On January - 20 - 2011

On Thursday Jan. 20th Egans is playing host to a Great Divide tap take over . The Event will run from 4pm until with proceeds going to Free The Hops and their continued effort  to change the laws and culture of beer in Alabama. All drafts will be $3.50 and feature:

Great Divide Claymore Scotch Ale. Named for a medieval Scottish sword, Claymore Scotch Ale is our tribute to the legendary “Wee Heavy” beers of Scotland. This malty, deep-ruby beauty features lots of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile, and a subtle warming character. Unlike its namesake, this beer only requires one hand, but it’ll still make you feel like nobility.  7.7% ABV. beeradvocate.com rating B+

Great Divide Espresso Oaked Age Yeti is a new addition to the Yeti clan. A generous infusion of espresso adds yet another layer of complexity to this beer, combining with the vanilla oak character, intense roasty maltiness and bold hop profile to create a whole new breed of mythical creature. It’s official: You can now have Yeti with breakfast.  9.5% ABV. beeradvocate.com rating A-

Great Divide Hoss is based on the Marzen lagers of Germany. Rich, layered malt notes, with hints of cherry and dark fruits, dominate, while the unique addition of rye imparts a slightly earthy, spicy character. Hoss finishes crisp and dry, and its brilliant red-orange color is a toast to the sunsets that make the perfect backdrop for this beer. 6.2% ABV. beeradvocate.com rating B+

Great Divide Hades is a Belgian-Style golden ale brewed with a rare Belgian yeast strain that gives a complex spicy flavor and aroma. Noticeable hops and medium malt character make it a very well balanced, crisp ale.  7.8% ABV. beeradvocate.com rating B

Tommy knocker Alabama Hop Strike Black Rye IPA is described as “characterized by an intermingling of spicy citrus hops and chocolate nose,” and comes in at a hefty 7% ABV and 78 IBUs. It uses 4 different varieties of grains as well 5 different types of hops. The beer was brewed from the ground up in honor of Free The Hops.beeradvocate.com rating B+

What’s better then an afternoon spent enjoying great craft beer at a great price, doing it while raising money for a great cause. Hope to see your there I know we’ll be. Cheers!
