Well it is that time of the year again,time to bowl. The Wellthatscool.com Lousy bowling league starts back up this Wednesday (Sept. 8th) at 7:30 and every week after for 12 weeks. The way it works is you bring a 3 man teams and 12 dollars. The money covers shoe rental three games and score keeping. I know what your thinking "I not that good of a bowler" well that means we are the perfect league for you. You will be assigned a handicap based on how you bowl that will change each week and make it fair for the good bowlers and the bad a like. This is the perfect way to get over hump day, hang out with cool people and just have fun. If you can't make it this week but still wanna bowl you can still join next week and make up the games. On Saturday June 5th wellthatscool.com took the long and grueling 55 mile trip to Birmingham for The Magic City Brewfest. The event was great and gave us a chance to chat with the good people from Good People Brewing. As expected the line to get to their booth was one of the most daunting of the whole festival. They had a special release of their double Imperial Stout called "El Gordo". Each 5oz glass cost $3 with all the money going to Free The hops. This release raised over $1500 to help FTH fight to continue to modernize Alabama's beer laws. We were lucky enough to get a sample before it got to crazy and can only describe it like this- "It's like drinking a black velvet Elvis painting".  As Good People continue to grow we look forward to more and more of their brews here in the Druid City. One of the other brews we enjoyed was Tommyknockers "Hop Strike Black Rye I.P.A". This is the beer that was brewed to commemorate the 1 year anniversary of the Hops being freed. This fest however was just the kicking off of beer events in Alabama and in Tuscaloosa. The events where still getting finalized last week and now we have the undated list of events and beers.

If there is one thing that we here at wellthatscool.com love, it's beer. Sweet, delicious beer. So naturally when we heard about "Alabama Beer Week" our ears perked up. Alabama Beer Week is a week long, state wide event that highlights all of the great craft brews on the market from right here in Alabama. Tuscaloosa will be getting its own events but the week starts in Birmingham this weekend with "The Magic City Brew Fest". The MCBF is brought to you by Free the Hops, a grassroots lobbying effort that helped change Alabama's beer laws, allowing many of the finer craft beers available in the U.S. to finally enter Alabama.
The MCBF takes place on Friday, June 4th from 7-11P.M. and Saturday, June 5th from 3-7 P.M. The event sells out every year, so make sure to grab your tickets early here. You can check out a list of the beers that they'll be pouring here. If you can't make it to Birmingham, worry not. The Druid City is hosting its own week worth of events for lovers of quality beer.

Monday June 7th

Tommyknocker Night at Egans with Tommyknocker sales manger Jim Schwab. This event will feature a special keg of a extremley limited production keg of Hop Strike! Black Rye I.P.A. This commemorative brew is made in honor of the first anniversary of the passing of the Gourmet Beer Bill. This will be the only keg in Tuscaloosa. This event will also have wellthatscool.com's own Bo Hicks tending bar. Event starts at 4pm.

The Alcove International Tavern will also play host to Great Divide’s Bryan Baltzell. All of the Alcove's taps will be Great Divide brews, including Titan IPA, Belgica (Belgian IPA),Dunkel Weiss, Denver Pale Ale, Old Ruffian Barley Wine, and Hercules Double IPA. The Belgica, Dunkel Weiss, and Old Ruffian Barley Wine will be making their debut in town. Get a free Great Divide pint glass with any Great Divide purchase(while supplys last) Event starts at 9pm

    As you know by now, we here at the WTC headquarters love to have a party. Another of our passions is great live music. That's why we could not be more pleased to bring both of these things together. The evening will start with a live taping of our weekly podcast at 9:45 where we will tell you everything that is awesome in the Druid City. After us, Callooh! Callay! will bring you cuts from their new Hackberry Records release “Sasprilluh Champagne”. Something Stuart Bond, vocalist and guitarist of the band Sparrow and the Ghost describes, “It sounds like a pop-centric Fleet Foxes doing Viva La Bam".(ed. note found out Stuart was misquoted and meant "Viva La Vida") We are not even sure what that means but what we are sure of is that the powerful acoustic driven indie set will be something that Tuscaloosa is lucky to have and that you will not want to miss. Their amazing set will be followed by New Orleans's own, The Blue Party. If you have not had the chance to see them you are missing out. They are described by NOLAfunguide.com as "...high-energy folk rock that's perfect for a house party, The Blue Party is possibly the "funnest" band on Earth." We just describe them as a band that makes everyone want to dance and not feel uncool about doing it. I like to dance so much that they even let me set my drums up to play and dance behind them while they play. It is next to impossible to not to have fun with these guys. Little Willies will have specials from Tommy Knocker as well as Great Divide and there always price effective wellthatscool.com beer of the week for only $2. Come out for a night of great music, podcastery and dancing.

   NPR’s All Things Considered recently ran a very interesting story about some thing we here at the Well That’s Cool World Wide Headquarters find of utmost importance…BEER.
There is one business sector doing ok in this time of lay-offs and close down. BEER.
Not only is Big Beer doing well, even local micro-brews are having troble meeting demand for product.
