A few weeks back we were lucky enough to be joined by SDX live in studio for what was gonna be an acoustic set. A guitar was forgot and so we were treated the most driving quietest SDX song ever. Seeing Sweet Dog playing with brushes could be the coolest thing we’ve seen in awhile.

On Friday July 29th, we are planning to head out to Green Bar and offer the first round of tickets to the 3rd Annual Brews Cruise which will be taking place on Friday Aug. 26th. We will only be doing cash purchases this night, but no service charge will be added. After Friday night, they will only be available on line starting Monday Aug. 1st here.
What is the Wellthatscool.com Brews Cruise III you ask? Well, we’re glad you did . It is a three hour cruise up the Black Warrior River with great live music and cheap local craft beer. The music this year will be provided by Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires and The Shakes. If you have not seen these bands, prepare yourself for best southern rock and soul the Druid City has ever seen. If you need video evidence, look no further than here and here. The brew portion of the evening will be provided by Terrapin Brewing (Athens, GA.) and Good People Brewing (Birmingham, AL). For the price you’d normally pay for a PBR, you’ll get some of the best beer the south has to offer.
So there you go, great music and local beer good enough to bring a tear to a glass eye. We will be at Green Bar from 9 until we sell out. The Bama Belle does not hold too many people, and the cruise has sold out early every year. If you want to make sure you make it, come out to Green Bar Friday and bring $15. Kadesh & The Perfect Strangers and Battito Trio will be playing on Friday. You’ll be able to get into Green Bar for free, and you can make sure you have a ticket for the most awesome rock show you’ve ever seen on a river boat. On Saturday, July 16th, DSmithImages celebrated its 3rd anniversary with “Tuscaloosa: We’re Coming Back”, a photography and live music showcase designed to celebrate Tuscaloosa’s continued rebuilding effort since the tornado of April 27th. The event was held at Green Bar, and the live music was provided by Tim Higgins, Emily Dozier-Ezell, Wes Webber, Blaine Duncan, and the group The Bear. All of the artists put on a fantastic show, and I do wish to thank them all for participating. It was a great night, and, naturally… I was able to photograph the festivities.

Wilhagans is the recipient of only two kegs of Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van De Keizer Blauw/Blue in the whole state. A name that long normally scares us but reading the reviews on bot Beer Advocate and Rate Beer make me think this beer will bring a tear to a glass eye. Rate beer includes a great description.

So there you go a beer brewed for a kings birthday (and here we thought The Champagne of Beers was classy) that rates as high as any beer we’ve every seen. We’ve heard of this beer selling for $12 a pint but Wilhagans owner Bill Lloyd says he will be selling it for much less then that. It’s your last chance here in Alabama to enjoy this uber rare beer so go forth and drink my friends.

On Saturday, July 9th, Birmingham based Model Citizen put on a rousing performance at Egans. The show was part of a benefit for the Ahmen charity, which is designed to help children in Honduras, who are living in poverty. The packed crowd, as usual, was highly energetic for the show as Model Citizen delivered another one of their highly spirited shows.
